Index & Primary data file fragmentation

When SQL Server queries performance starts to degrade, the database administrator first looks to rebuild the indexes to reduce fragmentation. When this doesn’t significantly improve the query performance, the primary data file or MDF needs to be defragmented. This requires an unnecessary outage.
